We are here to guide you through the fostering process, from your initial inquiry to your first placement and beyond. Throughout your journey, you will have a dedicated point of contact who will be there to assist you.
What Is the Fostering Process?

STEP 1
Initial Enquiry
Once we receive your enquiry form or phone call, we’ll have a conversation with you about what fostering involves and learn more about you.
STEP 2
Home Visit
If both parties are happy to proceed, an assessing social worker will visit your home for a more in-depth discussion.
STEP 3
Invite to Apply
If we believe you’re a good fit for fostering, you will be invited to formally apply.
STEP 4
The Assessment
The assessment is split into two stages and takes around four months. You’ll need to be involved for around 12 weeks of this time, providing further information as needed to your assessor, and the rest of the time will involve us carrying out legally required checks and references. (Depending on your individual circumstances, your involvement may be as little as 8 weeks. Your assessor will discuss this with you at the start of your assessment.)
STEP 5
The Panel
At the end of the assessment, you will attend a Panel Meeting where your application will be reviewed, and any final questions may be asked.
STEP 6
Final Approval
After the Panel Meeting, the Agency Decision Maker will review all the information and confirm your approval as a foster carer with Team Fostering.
