Team Fostering’s Assistant Director of Marketing and Recruitment, Liam explains here how joining in with the North East Children’s Christmas party last weekend reminded him of a few important things:
“As we drove home from yesterday’s Children’s Christmas Party, my 4 year old daughter commented on how excited she had been to see Santa and how she couldn’t wait to tell her friends at school about the present she received. The smile on her face and the excitement in her voice made the drive there and back in the pounding rain totally worth it. That is a smile that was most likely replicated in dozens of cars, across all of the faces of the children and young people that attended.
As someone who primarily works in an office type role, I think it is sometimes all too easy to lose sight of the impact we are having on the lives of the children and young people who are looked after by our team of incredible foster carers. Events like this really bring to life why we do what we do. So much energy and excitement in the room. Dancing. Laughing. Playing games. Being children. All of the children mixed beautifully and by the end some had made new friends. You could feel the sense of community amongst our carers in the room, and it was a great opportunity in amongst everyone’s busy lives to reconnect and catch up.
The Santa visit is always the highlight of the day and today was no different. Santa (with Mrs Claus beside him) came in the room to (very) audible shrieks of delight. The look of amazement on the faces of the children when their name was read out was just brilliant to see.
The Education team, who put the event together, did an absolutely fantastic job, and for me it served as an important reminder about the work we do here at Team Fostering.”
