We’re celebrating the different types of fostering this September, highlighting some of the #waystocare with Team Fostering.
It’s the last week of our campaign, and we’re celebrating fostering sibling groups.
What is it?
When sibling groups come into care agencies and local authorities will work hard to try and keep them together, although this isn’t always possible. Foster carers who have more than one spare room, or have a spare room large enough to accommodate same-sex siblings, are encouraged to consider fostering a sibling group to keep them from being separated in care.
Fostering brothers or sisters can present challenges, but knowing you’ve kept a family together will also be extremely rewarding.
All of our foster carers are offered the support, training, fees and allowances that allows them to look after young people in their care, and this would be tailored to fully support a sibling group placement with the number of children taken into consideration when establishing fees. For more information on the support we offer, click here.
Are there eligibility criteria for foster carers who want to offer sibling fostering?
To become a Foster Carer with Team Fostering it is essential that you are over 21, have a spare room, and are able to drive with access to a car. If you’re interested in fostering siblings, you’ll need a spare room big enough to accommodate two same-sex siblings, or more than one spare room.
At Team Fostering we take pride in recruiting foster carers from all walks of life. Our foster carers have different backgrounds and life experiences and there is no ‘model foster carer’.
We welcome all enquiries and do not discriminate against anyone because of their age, race, gender or sexual orientation. There are basic criteria that foster carers should meet (click here for further information), however we do take time to consider all circumstances, and our team are always happy to discuss eligibility concerns and solutions with those interested in joining us.
