By Nikki, Education and Support Service worker
This year the agency arranged for volunteering to be carried out at Broadmeadows Recreation Ground, not far from our East Midlands office. The programme, ran in June 2019, contributed to the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ campaign.
Unfortunately, typical British weather meant the setting was a miserable, wet and windy day! This didn’t put off our team of 10 young volunteers from getting their hands (or should we say, gloves?) dirty! The volunteers showed great enthusiasm and a commitment to looking after the environment, litter-picking for a solid 2 and a half hours despite the bleak outdoor conditions. Bolsover County Council provided us with the necessary equipment for the task, and it was a fantastic joint effort.
The young volunteers’ commitment to the cause was dedicated and undefeated, having recently taken part in discussions around climate change as part of our young person’s participation group, ‘Project Listen’. As an agency, Team Fostering is committed to caring for the environment and lowering our carbon front print. To this end, we are soon launching our new Environmental Action Plan, and is wonderful that our children and young people are as enthused about doing their bit.
Team Fostering is an independent, not-for-profit fostering agency that operates across Yorkshire, the East Midlands and the North East of England. The Volunteers Programme runs each year as part of our renowned Education and Support Service, a package of support designed to promote the best outcomes for children and young people.
